The PWHL Finds a TV Home

The Professional Women’s Hockey League has taken another major step forward in the United States.

The PWHL and Scripps Sports have announced a national broadcast agreement for the 2026–27 season, giving the league its first season-long national television package in the United States.

Scripps will produce and televise a featured Saturday “Game of the Week” on ION, a network available through over-the-air television, cable and satellite providers, connected television platforms and streaming services. According to the announcement, ION reaches more than 128 million U.S. households.

The agreement also gives ION exclusive U.S. coverage of the Walter Cup Final and one additional playoff series.

Meanwhile, the free Scripps Sports Network streaming channel will carry two more national PWHL games each week. That creates three regularly scheduled national broadcast windows every week—one on ION and two on the Scripps streaming network.

Scripps’ local stations in Detroit and Las Vegas will also become the local television homes of the league’s new expansion teams in those cities.

The arrangement does not eliminate the PWHL’s popular free streams. Every game will continue to be available on the league’s YouTube channel and at thePWHL.com in the United States and internationally outside Canada.

The new agreement follows a successful trial run. ION carried a New York Sirens–Montréal Victoire game nationally during the 2025–26 season and subsequently broadcast the Walter Cup Final.

With the PWHL expanding from eight to 12 teams for the coming season—adding Detroit, Hamilton, Las Vegas and San Jose—a consistent American television presence represents an important piece of the league’s growth.
