PWHL & EA SPORTS NHL 25

PWHL Breaks Through in EA SPORTS NHL 25 — and gentlemen… prepare to be outplayed!

Women’s professional hockey just notched another milestone — and this time it’s inside the digital rink. EA SPORTS NHL 25 now includes all six PWHL teams, complete with real players, authentic jerseys, and a fully playable PWHL Season Mode. See the details here.

For the first time ever, fans can skate as the Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, Montréal Victoire, New York Sirens, Ottawa Charge, and Toronto Sceptres. The league now lives inside the same hockey universe where generations of boys and young men have been trash-talking each other since the Sega Genesis days.

This isn’t just a token add-on. PWHL players arrive fully integrated into Play Now, Online Versus, Shootout, World of Chel, and Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT, the game’s popular team-building mode) — meaning they’re officially part of the daily grind where controllers are broken, friendships are tested, and someone inevitably blames “lag.”

More importantly, it brings women’s hockey into a space that has long been dominated by male players. But that might be about to change. Cue the panic in the man-cave. Let’s be honest: video-game hockey has traditionally been a guy thing. A sacred bonding ritual between brothers, buddies, and anyone who claims to “totally have you beat if my goalie didn’t glitch.” But with the PWHL now in the mix, expect more girlfriends, wives, sisters, and daughters to jump in — and here’s the twist: They’re probably going to be good. Like… very good.

Imagine the scene across North America:

  • A father confidently hands over the controller to his daughter “just to try a game,” only to watch her light the lamp six times with the Montréal Victoire.
  • Boyfriends bragging about their Division 2 Online Versus ranking — right before getting walked by a female interest who understands defensive gaps better than they do.
  • Husbands discovering their wives have secretly mastered the Minnesota Frost on HUT and now refuse to “go easy on them.”

Make no mistake: the digital torch has been passed, and many long-time male players will soon be experiencing the humbling sensation of being deked out of their socks by someone who doesn’t even have a custom controller.

No Competition…Yet

EA’s NHL franchise is currently the only major hockey game featuring the PWHL. No rival game maker has involvement with the league to date — meaning if you want to get beat online by the women in your life, NHL 25 is the exclusive destination.

This breakthrough is huge for women’s hockey, bringing the PWHL into millions of gaming households. It normalizes female athletes in spaces where they’ve been absent for far too long.

And if a few men get their digital dignity dented along the way? Well… too bad, so sad.
